We are looking for a Toner Formulation and Test Technician to support our Print Systems Division in Rochester, NY
 
As a Toner lab technician, you will be required to work under the direction of a Senior Toner Formulator. The role will require an Associate degree level in a Science based discipline, preferably with experience in a range of analytical testing techniques and with excellent laboratory discipline. It would be highly desirable for the candidate to have experience in Electrophotography and Photochemistry. Strong analytical and communication skills required. The candidate should have an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications in particular Excel.   
 
Key functions include
Toner, Carrier and Developer Preparation
  • Laboratory 50 g scale roll mill compounding, coarse grinding and jet mill pulverizing of toner
  • Air classification experiments
  • Waring blender and 10L Henschel mixer surface treatment
  • Carrier powder coatings (mix and oven cure)
  • Developer mixing (carrier plus toner)
  • Toner and Resin Thermal Characterization
  • Differential scanning calorimeter sample prep, instrument operation and data analysis
  • Melt rheometry sample prep and instrument operation
  • Toner sample patch generation and off-line fusing testing
  • Thermal gravimetric analyzer instrument operation
  • Toner and print keep testing
  • Colorant Characterization
  • CEILAB and Dr measurements (Gretag instrument) on paper patches
  • Covering power measurements on clear film patches via UV-vis spectrophotometer (Perkin Elmer) and densitometry (X-Rite)
  • Solution based measurements via the Perkin Elmer
  • Gloss measurement
  • Triboelectric Properties Characterization
  • Off-line q/m measurements via “MECCA and ET” devices
  • Off-line dust measurements
  • Charging rate measurements
  • Linear breadboard development efficiency measurements
  • Operation of LTD life test fixture
  • Bulk Powder Properties Characterization
  • Powder flow measurements – vibratory funnel and sieving time constant
  • Tap and apparent density
  • Carrier Measurements
  • Vibrating Sample Magnetometer
  • Pivoting cup developer flow
  • Bulk resistance
  • Other Occasional Measurements – sieving analysis of toner flakes and grit, powder hydrophobicity via sink rate, optical microscopy, contact angle of surfaces…
    Maintenance of the laboratory – ordering of supplies, interact with building personnel when needed, waste disposal coordination, etc.
